Bayonne will host its First Annual Bayonne Dog Show this year, according to the Division of Recreation.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 9, beginning at 10 a.m. at the First Street Dog Park.

The show will consist of dogs walking through and around the dog park. Owners can showcase their dogs to judges in hopes their dog will be named Bayonne’s top canine.

The show will be broken into three categories. The first is small dogs weighing anywhere from 2 to 22 pounds, running from 10 to 11 a.m. Medium dogs weighing anywhere from 23 to 57 pounds will compete from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Large dogs weighing over 58 pounds will compete from 12 to 1 p.m.

Preregister now

Preregistration is required. Email the Division of Recreation at bayonnedogshow@baynj.org.

Include the dog owner’s name, address, and phone number; the name of the dog; the breed of the dog; the size of the dog and approximate weight; and a photo of the dog.

Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a limit of 25 participants per category. Only one dog can be entered per household, Bayonne residents only.

The Division of Recreation will assign a number to dogs and their handlers. On the day of the dog show, dogs and handlers will line up in numerical order.

Other requirements

All dogs must be up to date on their shots. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog at all times.

The show is not a costume contest; costumes will not be accepted. It is not a talent show either.

Winners will not be announced the day of the show but on the week of Oct. 11. Prizes to be announced.
