COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – An animal rescue non-profit in Collier County says the streets of Immokalee are overpopulated with loose dogs. Now, SNIP Collier volunteers encourage pet owners to spay, neuter and vaccinate their pets.

“Some end up hit by cars. Some end up worms, some end up sick, or they end up pregnant and having more puppies,” Kristen Karnes said.

Volunteers believe the solution is two-fold. The first, raising spay and neuter rates through their low-cost clinic off Davis Blvd in Naples. SNIP is working to open a second clinic in Immokalee.

The non-profit believes Collier Domestic Animal Services hiring an Immokalee-based officer to increase enforcement could also help. NBC2 reached out to DAS for a comment but did not hear back.
