EAST BAY TOWNSHIP, MI – Authorities seized 165 dogs from a large-scale breeding operation in Northern Michigan after arriving at the property for blight enforcement, The Associated Press reports.
At least one dog was found dead, WPBN/WGTU reports. On Friday, Jan. 28, canines were found in kennels in vehicles, campers and trailers on the property in East Bay Township, Grand Traverse County, AP reports.

“It was sad,” said Jamie Croel, county animal control supervisor. “It was incredibly sad to see that someone would keep animals in that condition and that care. I know that they’ve had loose dogs out there before but who would anticipate 165 canines?”
The Cherryland Humane Society is now caring for the dogs and identified the situation as a “large-scale breeding operation.” The humane society is asking for donations of XL puppy pads, surgical gloves and disposable surgical gowns. Monetary donations can be made here.
The Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
