Our hearts are heavy this week. Our home state of North Carolina was hit so hard by Hurricane Helene.

Volunteers are working around the clock to provide adequate shelter, food, and water to dogs and cats (and humans) in need. However, the resources are extremely limited, including running water, power, and internet.

Thankfully, the storm didn’t severely damage the  Asheville Humane Society‘s (AHS) facilities. However, a lack of potable water made it difficult to care for animals in the Buncombe County Animal Shelter.

As a result, AHS has flown around 100 animals to Forsyth Humane Society (in our hometown of Winston-Salem) to keep them safe in shelters and foster homes away from the destruction.

How You Can Help

2 primary needs of the AHS at this time are gas + monetary donations via their Venmo @ashevillehumane

Canine Journal donated dog food to the Asheville and Watauga County (Boone) Humane Society during these difficult times.

Here are the links to Amazon wish lists for NC shelters:

  • ASHEVILLEhere and here
  • BOONEhere
  • FORSYTHhere (collecting to drop items to Western NC shelters in need)

Please spread the word and give if you have the means. And if you have suffered from this storm, our hearts go out to you.
