The Bayonne Division of Recreation has announced it will host the 2nd Annual Bayonne Dog Show on Saturday, October 15.

The event will start at 10 a.m. at the 1st Street Dog Park. Owners will have the opportunity to showcase their dog to judges hoping to be named Bayonne’s top canine.

Last year‘s Dog Show was a tremendous success! We are looking forward to October 15! I encourage everyone to come out to see Bayonne’s top dogs!” said Pete Amadeo, Recreation Superintendent.

The dog show will be broken into four categories. Small dogs, weighing between 2 to 22 pounds will compete between 10 and 11 a.m.

Medium dogs from 23 to 57 pounds will compete from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Large dogs weighing 58 pounds and over will compete from 12 to 1 p.m.

Pre-registration is required. To register, e-mail the Division of Recreation at bayonnedogshow@baynj.org.

In the e-mail to the Division of Recreation, include: the dog owner or handler’s name, address, contact phone number, the name of the dog, the breed of the dog, the size of the dog and approximate weight, and a photo of the dog.

Registration is a first-come, first-serve basis. There is a limit of 25 participants per category.

Only one dog can be entered per household. The show is open to Bayonne residents only.

Once registered, the Division of Recreation will assign a number to each dog and handler. On the day of the dog show, dog and handlers will line up in numerical order.

Prizes to be announced

The show will consist of dogs walking through and around the dog park. The Division of Recreation notes that the show is not a costume contest, nor talent contest, and that costumes will not be accepted.

Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog at all times. All dogs must be up to date on their shots.

Winners will not be announced the day of the show. Winners will be announced on the week of October 17. Prizes are to be announced.
