OUTDOORS: Tips to keep your dogs safe when roaming outdoors – Montrose Daily Press

It seems I read a post on social media, a couple times a week, from someone who lost a dog in the backcountry while out recreating. These kinds of posts really bother me, because I am a dog-lover. I have a long history with dogs. At one time we had cattle dogs that helped around the ranch controlling the cows. These guys were more workers than pets, but we cared…

5 Ways to Ensure a Happy Canine “Office Mate”

Working from home has many benefits, particularly if you have a dog. You can walk or cuddle her any time you want, and you don’t have to rush home to give her a bathroom break. But when you have a puppy, keeping her occupied so you can get some actual work done can be exhausting—I know because I have one. Among other things, Josie, my nine-month-old German Shepherd/Labrador mix, whines…

War dogs – TechCrunch

Let’s talk about strapping guns to the backs of robots. I’m not a fan (how’s that for taking a stand?). When MSCHF did it with Spot back in February, it was a thought experiment, art exhibit and a statement about where society might be headed with autonomous robotics. And most importantly, of course, it was a paintball gun. Boston Dynamics clearly wasn’t thrilled with the message it was sending, noting:…

Lansdale looking at sites for dog park – The Reporter

LANSDALE — With the borough’s skate park project now complete, town officials are tackling another goal. And this one’s for the dogs, quite literally. “We started a discussion on a dog park, and the committee is going to further explore that idea,” said councilwoman Mary Fuller. For much of the 2010s, council’s parks and recreation committee fielded feedback, held lengthy public debates, issued multiple sets of bid specs, and ultimately…

Collecting Fur To Help Clean up Oil Spills

Living with long-haired dogs, it seems all the brushing in the world won’t prevent fur from ending up in every possible crevice of my house. It turns out both human hair and dog fur is great for absorbing oil, including the oil spills along the coasts. The recent miles-wide oil spill off the California coast near Huntington Beach is ruining beaches and estuaries along the coast. In addition to ocean…
